Left home without travel insurance?

Don’t panic, we’ve got your back and we’ll get you back!

Whether you’ve set off on your journey and forgotten to take out cover for your trip, you’ve been on an extended trip where you haven’t needed cover until now or your last policy (either with Easy Travel Insurance or another provider) has expired and left you without protection, rest assured, we won’t leave you high and dry.

If you’ve already left home and are on your trip you can still purchase an Easy Travel Insurance policy to cover the remainder of your trip and the return journey to Australia. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide any cover or benefits for the first 3 days of any policy that is purchased once you have started your journey or that will become effective after you have left home, so it is best to act without delay, as soon as you know you need cover.

What does ‘No cover for 3 days’ mean?

The 3 day no cover period means there are no available benefits or cover under any section, for anything that has already happened or that happens in the first 3 days after the effective start date, shown as ‘Travel Start Date’ on your certificate of insurance.

When purchasing cover for travellers who have already left home you will need to select a start date for your policy 3 days earlier than you need cover to begin, or if you need cover to begin as soon as possible, you will need to use todays date. You cannot backdate cover or begin the policy earlier than todays date so where possible, plan ahead to ensure you have cover when you need it, and then select your end date as the day you will get back home.

Is there a special policy I need to take?

Our International Essentials Care, Comprehensive Care policy types are all available to purchase if you have already left home.

We also offer this option for travel within Australia on the Domestic Comprehensive Care policy, but this cover option for travel that has already begun is not available on our  Annual Multi Trip, Australia Inbound (non-Australian / overseas residents visiting Australia) or Domestic Cancellation Only policy types.

How do I get cover?

To get a quote for cover if you have already left home you will need to select the ‘Get A Quote’ tab on any page of our website or click here and then enter your travel and traveller details.

As you are taking out coverage for a trip that has already begun, we need you to select your current location and/or next intended destination in the same way that you would if you were taking cover before you left home.

For international travel you will need to use a single country, region or worldwide as the destination/s, DO NOT use Australia as your destination as this cover is considered just the last leg or end of an overseas trip for the purpose of Australian residents already overseas.

The destination Australia is only for domestic travellers within Australia and so will only provide a domestic policy type for travel within Australia and does not include any international benefits.

Remember, your policy start date must be at least 3 full days before you require the cover period to begin, your policy end date and your travel must end back in Australia.

Can I still get cover for existing medical conditions if I have already left home?

Yes, if there are any travellers with existing medical conditions that are not automatically covered, they will need to complete the online assessment which is part of the quote process.

To complete a quote with an obligation free assessment, enter your trip destinations and dates as previously described, and when you have completed your basic quote you will be asked about the travellers and if you require cover for existing medical conditions. If you or any of the travellers have a condition(s) that requires cover, selecting Yes to this question will begin an assessment on screen which will determine any available cover and if there is any additional premium to pay, this will be shown to you and you will have the option to accept or decline any cover offered.
