How do I stay up to date while on the road?
Whether you are travelling within Australia or have set off to explore the four corners of the globe, it is important to be informed of events that may affect your travel.
Even if you are regular news watcher there can often be things occurring that may be right in your immediate area that you are completely unaware of, so we recommend using a couple of tools to stay up to date and in touch, to help you stay safe.
Smart Traveller website.
The Australian Government Smart Traveller website should be your first port of call when you are planning a trip, but it is also a great resource for current information after you have departed, that is constantly updated with reliable and straight forward, facts and advice.
Generally, we are only able to offer travel cover for counties or regions of countries listed on this website that do not fall under the ‘Do Not Travel’ destinations category. If you travel to a place that is listed as ‘Do Not Travel’ on this website before your departure, there will be no cover available for you in this destination.
Should you travel to a destination which is deemed safe before your departure and the travel status designation changes while you are away, you should contact our emergency assistance team within 48 hours of this travel status change and our team will guide you and help you evacuate this place to a safe location.
If you contact our Emergency Assistance team after this 48 hour window, we may not be able to offer any assistance, so it is important to stay up to date with current events and affairs.
Cover More App.
Easy Travel Insurance policy holders have access to a whole range of support, services and other great travel features through the Cover More app. So, if you have a smart phone or tablet that has data or wi-fi capabilities, we recommend downloading the Cover More app. Just search for ‘Cover More’ in your Android or iOS app store before you depart, or even after you have left home.
After downloading the app, we will ask you to enter the email address that you used to purchase your policy, and we send an email to that address to ask you to confirm it is you. Once verified any policies associated with this email address will be pulled into the app.
We recommend allowing notifications and tracking in the app settings, while travelling, as our emergency assistance team constantly monitor world events and should your location be shown in the vicinity of an event that may affect you, we will contact you through the app to warn of any dangers, such as a natural disaster or terror attack.
Within this app, you can also call for assistance from anywhere you can get data or a wi-fi signal in say hotels, cafes, restaurants, service stations, shopping centres or libraries which means even if you do not phone coverage you will still be able to access lifesaving assistance at the touch of a button. We think that’s pretty good!
Of course, on your return you can change the privacy settings for notifications and tracking or delete the app if you prefer, but we think you will want to keep the app on your device as there is so much useful and interesting information available through this tool.
